The Life of a Princess...

So, for Kassie's birthday this year, we decided to do a Princess party. This was my first time doing the whole friend party (well, besides the 1st birthday luau that cost WAY too much!) and it was kind of stressful, but so much fun! So glad it's over though! Here are some pics. The girls had a blast! And the look on their faces when Belle walked in was classic. Wish I would've caught it on my camcorder.

Here Belle is telling her story. The kids were totally in a trance! They loved it.

She had an amazing voice:

The kids decorating their crowns:

Kas really enjoyed being a princess for a day:

Leini wasn't quite sure what to think when she met Belle!

But she sure loved being dressed up!

Posing for some pics:

Princess Belle did an amazing job. She taught them a song and a dance, talked to them about using good manners and was so great with the kids. If anyone is interested in hiring her, her website is: http://www.magicprincessparties.com/. You can pick your princess, and she comes with the crowns and entertainment and you can sit back and enjoy the party! (in theory! lol)

We also let the kids decorate their own cupcakes, which they had a lot of fun doing! Happy birthday my Princess Kas! Hope you had a memorable 5th birthday! =)

Happy Birthday Kas!

2 posts in one day! Amazing! I just needed to take a minute to wish Kassie a Happy Birthday! My baby girl is 5 years old today!

I once heard a saying that motherhood fills a hole in your heart that you never knew was there. I think that is so true. It has been such an amazing 5 years and I feel so blessed that she chose to be born into our family. She is such a loving, caring person. She always goes out of the way to look out for others, and tries to make sure everyone is staying in line! She is such a great big sister. She is very spiritual and loving. I could go on and on. She is truly a blessing and being a mother to her has been a true joy! Love you Kas! =)

Update...

My blog is in serious need of some tlc! Ok, so once again, I've been neglecting my poor blog. But, with good reason. Hear me out. So, my job provided me with a work computer, and all I had to provide was an internet connection and a modem. So unfortunately, my home computer got the short end of the stick. I had to steal the modem from my home computer to use for my work computer. And, I can't upload any pictures onto my work computer, so I have felt justified in being a slacker, because I always wanted to upload pics onto my blog. Then, BINGO! A brilliant thought occurs to me. And please hold your laughter. I just realized I could SHARE my modem! (Until I decide to actually go purchase a wireless card!) I just swapped the modem over for a minute so I could upload some pics. I know, I know. It took long enough for me to think of it!

So there is a lot to get caught up on.

There was preschool graduation:

Kas and her friend Eliza

With buddies Georgia and Collin

Kas and her teacher who we absolutely love, Ms. Liz

Kas and other amazing teacher Ms. Mindy

We had a day trip to Ogden with my friend Nani and her kids and went to the Dinosaur Museum:

Kas and her future husband Etano and cute Alema

We also went to the train station while we were in Ogden

Had a trip to the zoo:

Ok...so it's taking forever to upload these pics and I'm getting impatient! I just realized I haven't really posted any pics of Loleini though. So, here are some random pics...

Cheeser

This girl gives the best scowls!

Life is so hard!

Leini learning to walk

And the reason she learned to walk...

she was motivated by food! That girl can EAT!

And that's about all I have patience for tonight! I'll post more later. Stay tuned...

Ok...did anyone else watch the season finale? Just finished watching it, and my jaw is still on the floor. All I can say is they better not kill them off!!! I'll be so mad! Ok. Thank you for listening. I feel better.

Mother's Day Adventures...

So for some silly reason, I decided to pick up a shift for work, so I am currently working at 2:38 a.m. on this beautiful Mother's Day. And since there are no calls coming in (I guess people actually DO sleep) it's giving me some time to reflect on the blessings of motherhood. I can't even type the word without choking up! Gosh. I'm such a softie these days! Anyway, it's hard for me to believe that my 2 baby girls are almost 5 and 1! They have grown up so fast. I always wish that I could make time stop and just freeze them so I could enjoy them even longer, but I know that life is short. I try to enjoy every minute of it, because I know they will be grown and gone before I know it. Even when Kassie is having another melt down because she doesn't want to come home (she would rather be ANYWHERE than home. Sad, I know.) and Leini is being her strong-willed self and screaming to get what she wants. It's so worth it. I wouldn't change one second of it! To all the Mother's out there, I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!!!! =)

Serious.Blog.Slacker.

I'm sorry guys! I don't know what's going on with me! I feel like I've let you down! My computer isn't uploading pics, so I've been using that as an excuse to not blog. So, when I feel a little inspiration, I promise I'll post something really exciting!!! =)

Our New Pet Continued...

Since this last post, I have two more reasons why Leini reminds me of a puppy:

1- She likes to growl now...

2- She ACTUALLY ATE dog food yesterday! YUCK! My 10-year-old neice was holding her for me while I was helping my nephew with his homework. A few minutes later, I hear her coughing. I realized my niece had set her down, and she was eating out of the dog's bowl! She had 3 pieces in her mouth. I was so grossed out! I washed her off so thoroughly, but last night, I could still smell dog food on her breath! Yuck! Do you think she COULD be part dog? lol

Our New Pet!!!

The more I think about it, the more I realize....

This....

(not my baby btw! My computer wasn't uploading pics from my camera, so I had to substitute! lol)

Reminds me so much of this....

(not my dog either! =))

Seriously.

Let me explain.

This past month since Leini's been crawling, I've been noticing some tendencies she has that are so much like an active little puppy!

Here are some examples:

1- Kassie thinks it's funny to get a cracker and call her name. When she sees the cracker, she immediately starts crawling for it! Just like a puppy.

2- Anytime someone opens the front door, she immediately starts to race for it. Again, just like a puppy.

3- If left to explore for a minute, I know immediately where I can find her. Where you ask? In the kitchen. She has learned to crawl underneath the pantry to look for cereal that Kassie might have dropped when she was helping herself. Leini tries to be so sneaky and hide the little treasure in her hand so I don't see it. Again, just like a puppy.

4- She has an obsession...with shoes!

Need I say more? If I didn't know any better, I'd swear this little girl was half puppy! =)

Welcome Spring!!!

Ok...I know I'm not the only one the feels this way, but it is so nice to have Spring weather finally here! This week has been full of long walks outside, playing at the park, and a good long visit to Wheeler Farm, where my mom taught Kassie where meat comes from! YIKES! Tonight, I was cooking up some hamburger, and she told me, "Mom, I don't think I want to eat animals anymore...I just want to enjoy them!" I have a four-year-old vegetarian on my hands now! Thanks again Mom!

I love you Spring...thanks for finally coming...please stay for awhile! =)

Because Sometimes When it Rains, it POURS!!!

I want you to know that after looking over my last few posts, I do realize that most of them have been on the topic of sick/hurt children. I just have one more to add...then I'll lay the subject to rest for awhile! Read my previous post and read what I've been up to this last week. I was sad to find that when I came home from the hospital, Kas had a bad cough that seemed to come from nowhere. It had been less than a week since she had stopped coughing from her last cold. Well, last night, I was awoken with a blood curdling scream as Kassie lay in a pool of throw-up. I'm sure you appreciate this picture! lol But, poor thing had it coming out both ends all night! =( Between her waking up all night, Leini has still been extremely fussy and not eating regularly, so around 4 this morning, I realized it was pointless to try to sleep anymore and gave up trying. I should have known better, but I kept asking myself, "What next?" Well, I quickly found the answer to that was when Leini woke up this morning with a bad cough and runny nose. That's what I get for thinking!

Car Seats and Carts DO NOT mix!!!!

Ok...so I really thought about whether or not I wanted to blog about where I've been the past few days, because it has been a traumatic situation, and something that I still feel horribly guilty about. But, the more I think about it, if my sharing what happened helps someone else from having to go through the same thing, then it will be worth sharing. So, I guess I'll just get it out....

On Tuesday night, my sister and my friend Kristin and I were shopping at Wal-Mart. I had Kas and Leini with me, and Leini had been really fussy and didn't want to sit in her carseat, so I had been carrying her throughout the store. We had been there about an hour. I needed to pick up something off the shelf, and by this time, my arms were so sore from holding her. I set her in her carseat(which was fastened on the shopping cart) so I could reach something off the shelf and put it in the cart. In literally 5 seconds, the carseat fell over the side of the cart, and Leini fell face first on the hard linoleum floor. The carseat fell right on top of her.
=( Honestly, it is an image that will be burned in my mind for the rest of my life...and something that I have had a hard time forgiving myself for. It only took a second, and she was seriously injured.

So, she screamed for a good 20 minutes or so, while a huge goose-egg appeared on her forehead. Her nose and forehead took on a weird greenish-yellow tone. We applied some ice, and I called my Dr.'s office to see what I should do. They told me the signs of concussion to watch for...and we waited to see what would happen. She kept gagging like she was going to throw up, but she never did. After the initial screaming, she went completely limp in my arms and I could not keep her awake, which is very unusual for her. After about 15 minutes of falling asleep, she woke up and was very somber. We decided it was better to be safe, so my sister took me to the ER. I was crying so hard that I couldn't even check her in, so my sister was explaining to the nurse at the check-in counter what had happened. It didn't help that when she told them, "It just happened so fast," the nurse looked at me and said, "It only takes a second." That only made me cry harder. I felt as though I was a horrible parent!

They kept her to be monitored at the ER for several hours, but they told me it was probably more harmful for her to have a catscan done at such a young age because, "the amount of radiation she would receive would be equivalent to the amount of radiation from the Hiroshima bombing." That completely freaked me out, so I opted not to have a catscan done.

When we got home that night, she started vomiting. She wouldn't really eat, and by the following morning, I called my Dr.'s office and they told me I needed to take her immediately to Primary's. To lighten this story up a bit, when I found out I needed to take her back in, I started crying again, and Abe was standing by me holding her. When she saw me crying, she reached out for me and said "ma ma." This was something she said about a month ago for like 3 days straight, but had refused to say again, even after much prompting. I thought that was sweet! Anyway, back to the story.

So, on Wednesday morning I took her to Primary's and they told me that they would need to do a catscan...which freaked me out because of what I had been told at the other hospital. They told me they could lower the amount of radiation she received to a safe level. They found out that she had a skull fracture that started right below her soft spot, and went half way down her forehead. The good news was that there was no damage to her brain, or no inner bleeding. So they kept us overnight to watch her. She continued to throw up and then had diarhea, and they were worried about her becoming dehydrated. She started eating 1-2 ozs every 4 hrs or so, which is not less than half of what she usually eats. After an eventful night, where I had to share the room with 2 seperate patients, they discharged us the following afternoon. I really thought she was doing a lot better, even though she wasn't eating much. And then yesterday came and she stopped eating completely.

I took her into my Dr.'s office and he told me she wasn't dehydrated YET and to try giving her Pedialyte, Gatorade, even a Slurpee (WHAT????) to get her to drink something....anything. After many prayers, I thought we were headed back up to Primarys. She refused to eat anything all afternoon. Finally, around 9 o'clock last night, she was screaming, and she finally took a couple of ozs in a bottle. Last night, she did much better. She started drinking her formula again, in small portions, and she seems like she's slowly starting to return to herself. Hopefully it gets better from here! The hard part is reading the information they sent home with me that talks about future problems she may have with learning, etc. My trauma neurologist at the hospital feels that she won't have any future problems though, and her outlook was very positive.

Ok...sorry for the long story, but my reason for sharing was to make you think twice before you set your child in their carseat, even for a second without buckling them. The ER said they see more head accidents in infants from carseats. Please, please, please don't ever put the carseat on the bed, a table, anywhere higher than the ground. It only takes a second for a fall. And last but not least, carseats and Wal-Mart carts are evil! lol But seriously, they said that most accidents with carts have happened at Wal-Mart. Please learn from my mistake and don't let it happen to your child. It has been horrible! But, I'm hoping someone can learn from my mistake.

Here are some pics from the ordeal:

This one was taken after we got home from the ER the first night...and the swelling had already gone down a lot...

Kicking back in her metal cage at the hospital...she doesn't look very upset, but I assure you, the smiles were few and far between...

Her poor arm after they popped her blood vessel when they were trying to take her blood...

Happy to finally be home from the hospital! The sticky tape that was on her was what they connected the monitors to. Before we took them off....(notice Kas in the background dressed like she's ready to go swimming! It was bedtime, but she was convinced she should be going swimming instead! lol)

After we took the tape off...the red marks are still there!

My poor baby! Hope you never have to go through this! Although, it did give me a better perspective of what some of my friends have been through with their kids. It also makes me SO grateful for everything I have.

What Happens When Daddy Is Left in Charge?

Last week, I came home from work to find Kassie's hair in the scariest shape! Abe had done her hair in 3 little braids on each side that hung down and one big braid in the back for the rest of the hair! There were big chunks that were just hanging out with nowhere to go! I couldn't believe she was seen in public looking like some poor orphan girl! I had to take a picture, although you REALLY don't get the full effect!

NEED I SAY MORE????

I think he was just trying to be funny (I think?).

Thank goodness I'm done working my full time shifts and I'll be home in the morning to get Kas off to school! lol

Who's that man?

Look really closely. Do you see anyone familiar in the background? I almost didn't. My husband's friend had this picture on his Bebo page, and I just had to steal it. That was Abe working at the Polynesian Culture Center in 1999. This is him now:

Crazy, huh?

Germs, germs go away...

and don't come back another day! I know it's inevitable. It is February after all. But a bad case of yucky cold/flu germs have invaded my house. Both my girls got hit with a really bad cough/fever a couple of days ago, and it's not fun. They each wake up at least 10 times a night in a coughing fit. We were supposed to go to the Draper Temple Open House yesterday with my family, but we weren't able to make it. =( Hope they aren't here to stay too long!

Preschool 90210...

I just thought I'd share this to make you smile. This morning as I was getting ready for work, Kassie woke up and came into the bathroom to hang out. She told me she had something to tell me, but then she got really embarrased. Then, she proceeded to tell me that, "Mom, some kids in my class are falling in love." I was trying so hard not to say, "WHAT??????" So I calmly (on the outside) said "Oh really?" She said, "Yes mom. Braxton is falling in love with Cheyenne and Abbie is falling in love with Hunter." How do you respond to that? I tried to explain to her that they probably just liked each other as friends, and falling in love is something you do when you're older. I don't think I convinced her though! Lol She just gave me that look like, "Whatever mom!" Since when do preschoolers FALL IN LOVE????

This....

Plus this....

Equals this!

Well, it has definately been a much bigger adjustment going back to work than I thought it would be. I have been training full time everyday for the last week and a half, and I have to leave my house every day by 7 am. Leini has been having horrible acid reflux, and she hasn't been sleeping much at night (except for during the day, while I'm working of course). So this has been a sleepless week, filled with an overwhelming amount of information I need to learn. I am completely exhausted when I come home, and just thinking about cleaning or making dinner just drains whatever little energy I have left. I almost feel like a robot when I get home. I'm so happy to see the girls, but I just end up feeling guilty because I don't have the energy to do the things Kas wants me to do with her. Such a delicate balancing act. Any suggestions? Full time working moms, I have a newfound respect for you!

Working World...

Well...it's official. I'm a working woman again after 2 and a half years. I just started my training for Jet Blue, and today was my first day. I have to say...so far, so good. I was a little anxious to leave the girls for eight hours straight, but much to my surprise, they actually survived it! I know, I know. I guess I'm a little self centered and actually thought they might miss me or something...but they had too much fun having Grandma and Daddy all to themselves. Six more weeks of training and I'll be able to work from home. Should be a fun ride. Can't wait to start 'jetting' (as they like to call it) around the world (for free!). hehe

Ok, I don't know what it is, but I am in a blogging slump. Can't think of one creative thing to say. So how about I share a yummy recipe? You know the whole New Year, new diet thing? Let's just say that usually isn't my forte. But when my sister, who I see every day, asked me to start one with her (the same diet that was very sucessful after I had Kas...lost 40 lbs. in two months) I couldn't resist. It's easier doing it with a buddy, that way you have someone to call when you feel like saying "Screw it!" and eating some chocolate instead. I guess you could say it wasn't really a New Year's resolution, since it was started a week after the New Year. Anyway, I found this Sesame Chicken recipe that was really good...and hopefully if you decide to try it too it's good to you. I wonder if it just tasted so good to me since I have been without much flavor in my diet lately! lol

Anyway, you pretty much just make a teriyaki sauce using:

-- 1 cup soy sauce (depending on how many people you are serving, but let's just estimate)
-- 1 cup water
-- 4 cloves of fresh garlic
-- a one inch piece of fresh ginger minced. I have a garlic press, and I used it for the ginger too and it worked great.

Cut the chicken breasts in thin strips, and marinade in the teriyaki sauce for 20 mins. Take the chicken out of the sauce and place on a foil lined cookie sheet. Broil in the oven for 3-4 mins, then flip them to the other side. Broil another 3-4 minutes until the inside is no longer pink. Take out of the oven, and top with toasted sesame seeds (about 2 tbsp.). I just broiled the sesame seeds for about a minute, until they were barely starting to turn brown. And that's it! Just serve with some rice and a salad and you're good to go. It's really easy, but it's really flavorful. The sesame seeds give it a really good flavor. Anyway, if you decide to try it, leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

What happens when my 10-year-old neice has too much time on her hands?

BABY TINKERBELL!

Also, thanks to my sister, this is Loleini's obsession! It totally makes her clothes soaking wet every day.

New Year's Eve Fun...

Ok, I have been a big slacker again. Every time I sit down to write, I just don't know where to start, so I just don't write anything! lol I'll start with New Year's and work my way back! Every year, our ward has a big party/dance on New Year's Eve. Believe me when I say that Tongans know how to party! There were at least three hundred people there. My husband and the Elder's Quorum was in charge of cooking all the food, and they were working on it for two days!!! So we started off with a big dinner and there was a ridiculous amount of food (it wouldn't really be a Tongan party without it!). Then they had entertainment. They had some professional Polynesian dancers that came and they were amazing. Kassie was so excited because she was asked to dance with the Primary children this year. They were doing a western/square dance and it turned out so cute. She was the youngest one dancing, and she did such a good job! It was one of those moments when being a mom is so rewarding. Here is a pic of her with her 'partner.'

I actually recorded it on my camera and tried to upload it on here, but it was taking half an hour so I gave up. Anyway, after they finished she was so excited she wanted to do it again! I love it. Everyone was cracking up because she was totally hamming it up! This is such a great age, before they realize that there is such a thing as stage fright. Hopefully she doesn't get my fear of public speaking/dancing/anything where I have the spotlight on me phobia!

Here's a pic of the group that she danced with (there were three other groups of 8.

Since most of the kids were older, they were really embarrased because they didn't want to actually have to *gasp* touch their partners! They had to hold hands and dip each other. So cute. After the entertainment was over, we danced the night away and had so much fun. Abe was actually the DJ, so I didn't get the chance to dance with him as much as I'd hoped, but he let other people take over so we got to dance some. It was a great way to bring in the New Year! =)
